A space in Kharkiv, Ukraine, that aims to popularize Ukrainian culture and language, while dealing with the consequences of centuries' worth of forced russification.
We provide artists with an opportunity to present their work regardless of their past activities and achievements.
As a team, we've gained diverse experiences in organization and hosting of events — among those are music and poetry evenings, workshops, exhibitions, lectures, etc. We have volunteered at numerous festivals in Kharkiv, as well as in different cities all over Ukraine. We have the skills to carry out large-scale events, even if they have to be developed from scratch.
Kharkiv is a frontline city forced to choose the necessary survival over its own history, culture and art. We plan to show that the citizens are still able to reflect, create and experiment despite the circumstances of daily air raid alerts and living as far as 25 km from the frontline.
Constant shelling or lack of such basic conveniences as water and electricity pushes you to neglect everything to keep yourself alive. Especially the higher needs, like the self-defining and existential process of artistic expression. This drives us to support the selected participants as much as possible: provide them with the necessary materials, a space for networking and creating, hosting a number of educational opportunities, and so on
We believe that in this way, our citizens will be able to reconnect with their artistic past, which is necessary for the modern local culture to thrive
- Creating 30 individual art-works and 1 collective zine with 5 collaborating residents during a one-month period of work.
- Organizing the one-month long residency, finding a space for both creative hours and lectures/workshops, providing the artists with materials and feeding them.
- Reaching and selecting the residents.
- Educating the residents, developing their skills and knowledge with the educational component (lectures/workshops).
- Providing them with the necessary materials and a space to work in.
- Creating several projects in both audio-visual arts and graphic arts (the final exhibition and zine).
- Carrying out educational events for participants and providing them with learning materials/opportunities.
- Exhibiting the participants' art projects as the results of the residency for one month after its finish.
- Spreading/promoting the zine and cooperating with creators in the future.
